Over the Years

Practice

Originally Mangion & Mangion, our practice was set up in 1975 by Messrs. Salvino and Stephen Mangion, the former following his retirement from the post of Director of Public Works, and Stephen Mangion from a previous partnership.

In January 1990, the practice was renamed Mangion, Mangion & Partners when Mr Patrick Camilleri also became a partner.

The Practice has been involved in the whole development spectrum.

Larger projects were carried out related to:

  • Commercial buildings
  • Residential buildings
  • Educational/Cultural buildings
  • Industrial buildings
  • Tourism Related buildings
  • Urban Planning and Development projects
  • Heritage Rehabilitation projects

We also implemented many smaller projects, including single residential units and commercial projects.

In addition, the partners and senior architects have acted as consultants to the Government, NGOs and commercial and social organisations, as technical experts for the Courts and to Banks in the preparation of property valuations.

We have also participated in and have won a number of design competitions in Malta including:

  • The Kodak processing laboratory, offices and warehousing for P.Cutajar and Co, Ltd. (by invitation)
  • Plaza Commercial Centre for Plaza Enterprises Ltd. (by invitation)
  • Mtarfa New Town for the Housing Authority (open competition).
  • White Rocks Complex, Pembroke for the Ministry for Tourism (open competition).

Mangion, Mangion and Partners has also held temporary, ad hoc associations with several international firms on a number of international projects, such as:

  • Studio Valle (Rome), when during 1976 we worked together on a major housing project in Saudi Arabia.

  • James Cubitt and Partners (London), between 1979 and 1982 when design work was carried out on a number of major projects in North Africa.

  • Peake, Short and Partners (London), in 1986 on a major project for the extension of Farsons Brewery in Malta.

  • Richard Daniels Design Group and Ove Arup and Partners (London) between 1992 and 1995 on the extension and refurbishing of the Phoenicia Hotel in Malta.

  • BDP (London) with whom we are currently involved in the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology masterplan.
